“ABA is a well-developed scientific discipline among the helping professions that focuses on the analysis, design, implementation, and evaluation of social and other environmental modifications to produce meaningful changes in human behavior. ABA includes the use of direct observation, measurement, and functional analysis of the relations between environment and behavior. ABA uses changes in environmental events, including antecedent stimuli and consequences, to produce practical and significant changes in behavior. These relevant environmental events are usually identified through a variety of specialized assessment methods. ABA is based on the fact that an individual’s behavior is determined by past and current environmental events in conjunction with organic variables such as their genetic endowment and physiological variables.” (Council of Autism Service Providers: Applied Behavior Analysis Treatment of Autism Spectrum Disorder: Practice Guidelines for Healthcare Funders and Managers, 2020)
What does all that mean? In short, ABA is a scientific way to look at the behavioral challenges you are facing. We’ll learn help you learn about WHY the challenges are occurring by collecting and analyzing data regarding the events surrounding those challenges. Then, we’ll partner with your family to use that information, along with the information you share with us about your needs and preferences, to develop a treatment plan to move forward. This is a living, breathing plan with goals and evidenced-based interventions that will regularly be implemented, analyzed, and modified when needed. Your family's needs will always be at the forefront of decision making.
At Liberty ABA, we do not seek a "cure" for autism; instead, we embrace neurodiversity and celebrate the unique personalities and traits of each child we support. Our approach aims not to erase essential aspects of a person's identity but to empower them with tailored tools and strategies. ABA is an evidence-based treatment for autism, but our services aren't intended to mask autism. Our goal is to foster growth in communication, social interaction, and foundational skills, enabling our clients to lead their most independent and enriching lives.
No, ABA is a separate service. However, many of our goals may overlap or support goals being targeted with your child's speech and occupational therapists. At Liberty ABA, we prioritize effective and frequent communication with your child's related service providers to ensure that we are all working towards a common set of long-term goals.
Our services are not intended to replace schooling. However, ABA can play a crucial role in readying children for the school environment. A standard part of services with ABA involves an evaluation of your family's current and future school attendance and participation goals for your child as well as frequent communication and collaboration with your child's teachers (if applicable). In some cases, we are able to partner with your child's school to provide ABA services in the classroom. A Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) is a master's or doctorate level service provider who has been trained to practice Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), a specialized behavioral health treatment approach. Prior to becoming board-certified, a candidate is first trained in academia and then completes 1000+ hours of clinical work under the supervision of an experienced BCBA. Then, the candidate must pass a rigorous examination prior to becoming an independent practitioner.
“Although healthcare funding and management of behavioral health treatments supervised by Behavior Analysts is relatively recent, Behavior Analysts–like other medical and behavioral health providers–rely upon strategies and procedures documented in peer-reviewed literature, established treatment protocols, and clinical decision-making frameworks. They continually evaluate the current state of the client and customize treatment options based on the results of direct observation and data from a range of other assessments. Behavior Analysts also solicit and integrate information from the client and family members and coordinate care with other professionals.” (Council of Autism Service Providers: Applied Behavior Analysis Treatment of Autism Spectrum Disorder: Practice Guidelines for Healthcare Funders and Managers, 2020)

At this time, we are exclusively providing in-home ABA services. Contact us today to learn more about the benefits of ABA in your family's natural environment!
In-home ABA treatment can be beneficial for families seeking personalized therapy in a familiar environment. It's ideal for children who thrive in structured, one-on-one settings where they can receive focused attention. Candidates often include children who are not yet ready to consistently be away from home, as well as those who benefit from interventions integrated into their daily routines and surroundings.
Conversely, in-home ABA may not be suitable for children who require extensive specialized equipment or facilities that cannot be easily replicated at home. Additionally, children who thrive in group settings or would benefit from regular social interaction intervention with peers might not fully benefit from the primarily one-on-one nature of in-home ABA. Evaluating your child's specific needs and consulting with us can help determine if in-home ABA is the best fit for your child's developmental journey.
ABA treatment programs can differ across several dimensions, such as the extent to which they are directed by providers or clients (often referred to as "structured vs. naturalistic"). The implementation of these dimensions in individual treatment plans takes various factors into consideration, including the evidence base, client age, specific target behaviors, the client's progress rate, prerequisite skill demonstration, and the resources needed to support the treatment plan's implementation across different settings.
Session length & duration vary based upon need and availability. If we determine during the initial assessment process that we cannot meet your child's needs due to scheduling limitations, we will provide you with additional local referrals.
Similarly, while the goals in your child's treatment plan will remain constant (unless we decide as a team to alter them!), we work hard to be flexible and prioritize the needs of your family so the structure and content of the session may vary slightly from session to session. For example:
